Our History: Over 60 Years of Faith in New Hope, Minnesota

House of Hope Lutheran Church is a welcoming Lutheran congregation in New Hope, MN. Since 1964, we have shared the gospel through worship, teaching, service to others, study, and fellowship. We are thankful for God's many blessings and pray for continued guidance in the years ahead.

How House of Hope Began

Our ministry began in the spring of 1964, when the congregation purchased six acres in New Hope, Minnesota. Construction started that September. Our first worship service was held on October 4, 1964, at New Hope Elementary School, with about 150 people attending.

As the congregation and the New Hope community grew, so did our campus. Over the years we added new structures to the building and improved the outdoor grounds.

A Ministry of Hope

Our name is also our mission: hope in God, in our faith, and in each other. That hope has shaped many milestones and traditions.

Church milestones

  • 1967: The church library opened.
  • 1971: Whole families began coming forward together for communion and blessings.
  • 1973: Third graders began receiving their first Bibles.
  • 1974: Fifth graders began receiving First Communion.

 Community Traditions

  • Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner: First held in 1981, this annual dinner is a favorite of members and neighbors alike.
  • Oktoberfest: Held each September, this celebration has become a community favorite in more recent years.

Youth Ministry

Our youth group may be small, but it is full of energy. Here, every teen is known by name, has a voice, and has a real role to play. Together we study Scripture, serve our neighbors, take on mission trips, and have plenty of fun along the way.
